Semuliki National Park
Semuliki National Park is one of Uganda's most unique protected areas, renowned as East Africa's only true lowland tropical rainforest. Established in 1993, the park covers approximately 220 km² in the Albertine Rift Valley and forms part of the vast Congo Basin ecosystem. It is one of Africa's richest biodiversity hotspots, home to rare Central African wildlife, over 440 bird species, numerous butterflies, primates, and the famous Sempaya Hot Springs.
What to do
Sempaya Hot Springs Visit
The Sempaya Hot Springs are the park's most iconic attraction. Visitors can explore both the Male and Female Hot Springs, where boiling water reaches temperatures of nearly 100°C. The springs are surrounded by lush rainforest and local legends, making them a fascinating natural and cultural experience.
Guided Nature Walks

Although primarily a rainforest park, Semuliki is home to a variety of wildlife including forest elephants, buffaloes, leopards, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, water chevrotains, and more than 50 mammal species. Wildlife encounters are often experienced during guided walks and game drives around the park's edges.
Primate Watching
The park hosts several primate species, including black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, and De Brazza's monkeys. Visitors may also occasionally hear or spot chimpanzees in the forest.

Semuliki offers incredible opportunities for landscape and wildlife photography. Dense rainforest, giant mahogany trees, colorful butterflies, unique birdlife, hot springs, and diverse wildlife provide stunning subjects for photographers.
