TOORO BOTANICAL GARDENS
Native Plants · Organic Honey · Guided Ecology Walks
Tooro Botanical Gardens
Tooro Botanical Gardens is a living treasure — a sprawling green sanctuary just minutes from Fortportal city centre and the festival venue. Covering several hectares, the gardens protect and propagate Uganda's native tree species, medicinal herbs, and traditional plants that form the foundation of Toro Kingdom healing knowledge. The guided ecology walk is genuinely outstanding — passionate local guides lead you through 3 km of moderately challenging terrain, sharing knowledge about endemic species, their traditional uses, and the garden's conservation mission. Beyond the walk, the gardens produce organic honey on-site — rated by many visitors as among the best they've ever tasted — and a wide range of essential oils, seedlings, and medicinal plant products.

"An amazing and huge botanical garden. They make honey, grow different herbs and plants for sale. A guide was included in the ticket and he was very passionate and willing to share his knowledge. I absolutely loved it."
"Just a few minutes drive from Fort Portal but an entirely different world. If you have interest in ecology, gardening or species conservation this place is for you. The guided tour is highly recommended."
"Not the best botanical gardens in the world but still a lovely spot to walk around. Staff are friendly, they sell essential oils made at the gardens which are lovely. Good gift for someone who loves natural wellness."
At just 3 km from the venue, the gardens are the perfect morning warm-up before festival doors open at midday. Go early (8:30am) when birds are most active and the air is cool.
